Director of Legal Services

Restoration Immigration Legal Aid

Position: Director of Legal Services

Job Type: Full-time

Location: Arlington, VA

Supervisor: Natalie Foote, President/CEO

About Restoration Immigration Legal Aid (RILA):

RILA holistically supports immigrants in Northern Virginia by providing excellent, pro bono immigration legal assistance to those who are most vulnerable and who have the fewest resources. RILA’s areas of focus include asylum and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). RILA further assists clients who may be eligible for other humanitarian-based immigration benefits, such as those who have been victims of domestic violence or human trafficking. Most recently, we have taken cases to help reunify Central American minors with their families (under a recently reopened federal program) and to assist Afghan refugees. RILA began as a program of Restoration Anglican Church in 2015 and held its first legal aid clinic in March 2016. We employ four full-time and eight part-time staff, including four attorneys and four persons who are U.S. Department of Justice Accredited Representatives, which qualifies them to practice immigration law as non-attorneys. Our more than 250 volunteers, including pro bono attorneys and interpreters, are essential to our work. In February 2019, RILA incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and in January 2020, we received our IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter. RILA is committed to collaborating with partner and peer organizations in order to sustain and build a strong network of services that support immigrant families in our neighborhoods. Our partner organizations include schools, churches and social service organizations. We maintain strong relationships with our peer organizations in order to share information, legal developments, and to give and receive referrals. RILA also aspires to be an advocate and educator on immigration issues in the community and makes its staff available to speak on the complexities of immigration law.
